Asia-Pacific meeting on IPBES opens in Tehran
Press TV: Iran’s Department of Environment in cooperation with the Economic Cooperation Organization, ECO, Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, is hosting the International Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services conference in Tehran. The aim of the conference is to provide better life and human living standards through Ecosystem Services.
Representatives from ECO, the United Nations Environmental Program, UNEP, United Nations Development Program, UNDP, and the United Nations Education, Science, and Cultural Organization, UNESCO all attended this event.
ECO countries to agree on cross-border transfer of species
According to IRNA, the Deputy Head of the Iranian Department of Environmental, Asghar Mohammadi-Fazel who was speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of Tehran ECO Conference on Cross-Border Transfer of Species further elaborated, “Today Iran is the host of ECO member countries’ representatives in a conference focusing on environmental cooperation, particularly in the field of ecosystem diversity, which is the subject matter of discussions at this conference.”

Regional Conference on IPBES: open for registration
In preparation for the second plenary meeting on IPBES, a regional capacity building workshop and consultative meeting for ECO country members, as well as Asia and the Pacific will be held from 10 to 12 March 2012 in Tehran, hosted by the Department of Environment of Islamic Republic of Iran in collaboration with the ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ECO-IEST), with support from UNEP and financial support from the Government of Norway.
Proposal for ECO Region Biodiversity Plan of Action
A new article published by the CBD Secretariat on the new ECO initiative. To answer complex needs of the ECO region, an initiative has been proposed to integrate National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) of all state members of the ECO region in order to develop a Regional Biodiversity Plan of Action (RBPA). This Plan will add to the framework plan of action on environmental cooperation and global warming for ECO member states (2011-2015) and could be used as a model for other neighbouring regions as well as other regional organizations and act as a roadmap for the implementation of CBD and achievement of Aichi Nagoya biodiversity targets.
Environmental Experts of Turkmenistan will receive training in the University of Environment
On Thursday November 3rd 2011 during the meeting in Mashhad with Minister of Environment of Turkmenistan, Vice President and Head of the DoE of Iran invited the environmental experts of the Turkmenistan to participate in a technical training course on Environmental Protection in the University of Environment and proposed that Iran is ready for any kind of cooperation and exchange of experiences with Turkmenistan.
