ECO-IEST: On Wednesday 8 November 2017, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif held talks with Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon in the Tajikistan capital's Dushanbe on Wednesday.
Zarif arrived in Dushanbe on Wednesday morning heading a high-ranking delegation. Prior to the visit, Zarif held talks with his Tajik counterpart Sirodjidin Mukhridinovich Aslov.
Zarif will fly to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from Dushanbe after his visit to Tajikistan. He is slated to attend International Conference on Security and Sustainable Development in Central Asia to be held in Samarkand.
The main purpose of the visit is the opening of a new building of Iran’s embassy in Tajikistan.
Zarif will also meet with the speakers of the lower and upper chambers of the Tajik parliament. These meetings will be devoted to the current state of Tajik-Iranian relations. This is the first visit of a high-ranking Iranian official to Tajikistan over the past two years.
The current visit of the Iranian minister to Tajikistan is a promising factor for the improvement of bilateral relations.
The conference is to be held with the attendance of international and regional dignitaries.
