ECO Senior Officials MeetingECO-IEST: Prior to the 5th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Environment, Senior Officials Meeting was held on 15 and 16 December in Istanbul, Turkey.

During this two day meeting Senior Environmental Officials of the ECO Member States, inter alia, discussed the status of the Framework Plan of Action on Environment Cooperation and Global Warming (2011-2015); Regional Project to Combat Desertification with a Special Emphasis on Dust Haze and Sand Storm in the Region; Status of Membership of the Organization to the International and Regional Environmental Conventions; Feasibility Study on Development and Harmonization of Environmental Standards in ECO Region; Enhanced ECO environmental cooperation, etc. 

In preparation of the 5th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Environment on 17 December 2014, Senior Officials worked on drafting "Istanbul Declaration on Climate Change and Green Economy", prepared by a drafting committee for final adoption by the Ministers of the Member States.

ECO Senior Officials Meeting

During the Senior Officials Meeting, state of affairs with the ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ECO-IEST) was also considered by the delegations. At this meeting, Dr. Asghar Mohammadi Fazel, President and Dr. Sasan Rabieh, Coordinator of the ECO-IEST who were representing the ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology delivered comprehensive report on the current and forthcoming activities of the Institute, as well as the latest developments in the status of the Framework Plan of Action on Environment Cooperation and Global Warming (2011-2015) & Regional Project to Combat Desertification with a Special Emphasis on Dust Haze and Sand Storm in the Region which, in May 2013, both projects were mandated by the 23rd Meeting of the ECO Regional Planning Council to the Institute.

It should be noted that the 23rd Meeting of the Regional Planning Council in 6-8 May 2013 had recommended changing the status of the ECO-IEST as an ECO affiliated institute, subject to the approval of the ECO decision making bodies. Consequently, the 21st council of Ministers authorized the Council of Permanent Representatives to change the status of the Institute into an affiliated body. Pursuant to the request of the 24th Meeting of Regional Planning Council in 23-26 February 2014, ECO-IEST, in consultation with the ECO Secretariat has prepared draft charter for consideration of the Member States.
