ECO-IEST: On Sunday 26th April 2015, Mr. Stefano Laporta, Director General of the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) had a visit to the ECO-IEST in order to discuss the arrangements for signing the Memorandum of Understanding between two institutions on 27th April at the ECO Secretariat. ISPRA Director General had also a speech for faculty members, students and staff of the University of Environment in order to introduce his institute, brief them on the content of the MoU to be signed between two institutions and the prospect of mutual cooperation.
During his speech at the conference hall of the University of Environment, Mr. Laporta explained that The Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, ISPRA, has been established in 2008, by combining four former national environmental institutions namely; ex-APAT, Italian Environment Protection and Technical Services Agency, ex-INFS, National Institute for Wildlife, ex-ICRAM, Central Institute for Scientific and Technological Research applied to the Sea and the Institute with more than 1400 staff all over the country acts under the vigilance and policy guidance of the Italian Ministry for the Environment and the Protection of Land and Sea.
Director General of ISPRA while making reference to the meeting between the Italian delegations headed by Mr. Gian Luca Galletti, Italy's Minister for the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea and Dr. Massoumeh Ebtekar, Vice President of the State and Head of Iran's Department of Environment where the issue of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between ISPRA and ECO-IEST was also mentioned, described this cooperation very beneficial to conserving the biological diversity, climate change adaptation and mitigation, protecting marine environment, combatting against air pollution, etc and noted that these days environmental issues are of geopolitical importance at global and regional levels, so it is very important to consider environment as a cross cutting issue in all economic, social and political decisions and policies.
Praising the good positioning for establishing the ECO-IEST in an academic ambient, Mr. Laporta described exchange of experience and good practices as well as promoting cultural aspects of developing a new attitude towards environmental issues in future generation as a fundamental pillar for protecting the future of our planet which the best could be achieved through academic level and asked the students to be patient and consistent in their fight for protecting the environment.
At the end of his speech ISPRA Director General hoped that following signing the MoU, his institute and the EO-IEST could have a concrete and positive cooperation and both sides can cooperate to put this MoU into action as soon as possible.
During this meeting, Dr. Asghar Mohammadi Fazel, President of the ECO-IEST thanked the IPRA Director General for accepting their invitation to visit the Institute and gave him some information about a number of highlighted activities of the ECO-IEST and outlined several areas of cooperation between two institutions.
