Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Rahimpour underscored his country's support for Tehran's permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
ECO-IEST: Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Rahimpour underscored his country's support for Tehran's permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

During the meeting in Astana on Saturday 18 March 2017, Abdrakhmanov described the economic agreements between the two countries as important, and said they indicate the two nations’ will to broaden economic cooperation.

Rahimpour, for his part, expressed satisfaction over the growing economic relations between Tehran and Astana, and stressed the importance of implementation of mutual agreements in the fields of transit, rail transport, energy and agriculture.

The SCO is an intergovernmental organization which seeks to strengthen mutual trust and good-neighborliness between the member countries; facilitate their effective cooperation in political, trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural areas as well as in education, energy, transport, tourism, environmental protection; joint maintenance of peace, security and stability in the region; towards the creation of a democratic, just and rational international political and economic order.

It was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
