ECO-IEST President had a visit to the Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability of United Nations University (UNU-IAS) in Tokyo.

ECO-IEST: On Monday 24 July 2017, in order to expand international scientific cooperation, Dr.Asghar Mohammadi Fazel the President of the ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ECO-IEST) had a visit to the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan and met Dr.Kazuhiko Takemoto, Director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS).

At the beginning of the meeting Dr.Fazel, presented a short introduction to the ECO-IEST and a brief review on current programmes. At the end of this meeting both sides expressed their hope for further, deepen and widen relationship in the widest range of environmental fields and exchange the experts and knowledge between two organisation.

Both Dr. Takemoto and Dr. Fazel held a variety of environment-related positions in their Government, most recently serving as Vice-Minister in the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and Department of the Environment of Iran, respectively.

The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) is a leading research and teaching institute based in Tokyo, Japan. Its mission is to advance efforts towards a more sustainable future, through policy-oriented research and capacity development focused on sustainability and its social, economic and environmental dimensions. UNU-IAS serves the international community through innovative contributions to high-level policymaking and debates, addressing priority issues for the UN system.

The activities of the institute are in three thematic areas: sustainable societies, natural capital and biodiversity, and global change and resilience. Through postgraduate teaching UNU-IAS develops international leaders with the interdisciplinary understanding and technical skills needed to advance creative solutions to problems of sustainability. The institute offers master’s and doctoral degrees, postdoctoral fellowships and innovative short courses, in close collaboration with leading universities in Japan and other countries.
