Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived in the capital of Kazakhstan , Astana, on Saturday evening to attend an international science summit there and he hoped that the Islamic countries' summit in Kazakhstan result in promotion of teamwork among them in this regard.
ECO-IESTECO-IEST:  On Sunday 9 September 2017, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived in the Kazakh capital, Astana, on Saturday evening to attend an international science summit there and he hoped that the Islamic countries' summit in Kazakhstan result in promotion of teamwork among them in this regard.

He said "I hope this summit will become a good base for better cooperation among Islamic countries in the fields of science and technology,' President Hassan Rouhani said in a reference to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit on Science and Technology slated to be held on Sunday in the Kazakh capital, Astana."

Speaking to reporters before departure for Kazakhstan, he said, 'Resolution of human society problems like poverty, unemployment, food security, environmental issues, water and energy shortages are only possible in the light of science and technology.' 

Rouhani is scheduled to attend the first summit of OIC on science and technology during his two-day visit to Kazakhstan.

He is making the visit upon an invitation from his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The president is expected to meet some of his counterparts including Kazakhstan president on the sidelines of the international conference.

It is worth noting that the ministerial meeting, preparatory to the OIC Summit on Science and Technology started Saturday in Astana.

Ministers of Science and Technology of the Member States discussed and adopted the ‘OIC Science, Technology and Innovation Agenda 2026’ before its consideration and adoption by OIC leaders during the First OIC Summit on Science and Technology, which starts Sunday.
